Dempsey's character plays role in extension

Tommy Dempsey signed a two-year extension with Binghamton University, keeping him on the bench for the Bearcats through the 2018-19 season. With just 17 wins against 76 losses in three years, the wins and losses may not indicate his impact on the program. Pat Elliott, BU Athletic Director, says the time was right to give Dempsey the extension because he believes in his plan to continue rebuilding the program. Also playing into the decision, Dempsey's character.
"Tommy Dempsey is a man of great character and great integrity and sure, that means a lot in this business," Elliott said. "He's a pleasure to work with. Again, between and athletic director and a coach there's times that you may not always agree, but he and I communicate really effectively and we have a plan in place and process in place and that makes a big difference."
Elliott also added that Dempsey plays an invaluable role as an educator, driving his student athletes to achieve excellence on and off the court.
