A K-9 officer at the Binghamton Police Department will soon be wearing a new specialized K-9 camera.

Lodge number 10-13 of the Loyal Order of Moose is helping to pay for the new technology. It's donated $1500.00 hundred dollars to the city's Police K-9 unit. The Community Foundation of South Central New York, City of Binghamton, and State Department of Homeland Security picked up the rest of the cost of the $7,000 camera. Police Captain Chris Bracco says the camera will enhance officer safety and will help officers be more proficient and tactical when conducting a search.

"It'll enable us to send a dog into a high risk situation, such as a barricade, building situation. It'll help the SWAT team get the layout of the building, where someone could be before our officers make entry" said Chris Bracco, BPD Police Captain.

Bracco says the camera will sit on the top of the K-9's back looking over their ears and allowing for an unobstructed view of the area being searched.
