A lot of talk about hearts on Valentines day but a local hospital is making sure yours is healthy!

Lourde's Hospital hosted a free Cardiovascular and Stroke Awareness Day.

The hospital offered stroke risk screening, blood pressure readings, proper nutrition advice and information about signs and symptoms of heart disease.

Officials at Lourde's say the risk of stroke increases every decade after the age of 55.

Colleen Cameron, Cardiovascular Disease Manager said, "More and more people are aware of the signs and symptoms but there are still many who aren't, so we're hoping to try and spread that word out there so people know what to look for, not just for themselves, bit for friends and family as well."

Officials also say if you have either cardiovascular diseases or stroke in your family history speak to a doctor to find the risk factors you can change.
