One bright spot from the frigid cold weather we're expected to have later this week, it should make for some great ice fishing at Saturday's Crappie Derby.

This will be the 41st derby at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point and the purse for the top fish is expected to be $5,000.

Prizes will be handed out every 15 minutes for the longest white crappie reeled in every 15 minutes and the derby has become a big event in the area.

"It's become a tradition. Mother nature once in a while throws us a curve but we get by it and hope the people will get out to support us when we are able to pull it off. We will be able to pull it off this week, said Derby Director David Hughes.

The derby will run Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm on the lake.
