Phase 1 of the Prospect Mountain Project is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year.

On Tuesday the Regional Director of the Department of Transportation was at the Binghamton Rotary Club discussing the project and what people can expect this upcoming year.

Officials say some of the work includes pouring decks on the new structures and completing the Chenango Street bridge. Officials say that they plan on taking down the old structures for I-81 north and south that go over the river.

Regional Director Jack Williams said, "Actually traffic is travelling over some of the old structures still and until we can construct the new I-81 structures and get traffic up on them then we'll remove the remain structures."

The main portion of phase two is scheduled to begin next year.
