Binghamton Man Accused of Cashing Forged Checks

A forged check cashing spree across Broome County leads to over a dozen felony charges for a Binghamton man.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, members had been investigating a series of reported forged checks, beginning in March 2024. A total of eight forged personal checks totaling $5,218.70 had been cashed at three separate M&T Banks and three separate Visions Federal Credit Union locations. The checks appeared to be personal checks from county residents, but none of them reported writing a check to the suspect or meeting him.
The investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for 55-year-old Thomas E. Jones.
Jones was charged with the following:
- 8 counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd degree
- 5 Counts of Forgery in the 2nd degree
- Grand Larceny in the 4th degree
- Petit Larceny
- Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 3rd degree
- Forgery in the 3rd degree
Jones was arraigned and remains at the Broome County Correctional Facility.
