Fourth-grade Greene Intermediate School teacher Kalli Bigart has never been the one to shy away from creativity when it comes to teaching. For this fourth-grade teacher, her passion came from teachers back when she was the one sitting in a desk.

"They were always, you know, students first student-friendly, creating a classroom environment that was welcoming, which is what I try to do in my classroom," Bigart said.

Prioritizing group work and classroom activities, the eighth-year teacher is always looking to bring positive interactions into the classroom and help friendships grow.

Room 28 features learning stations, task cards, and Chromebooks that help Bigart and her students cover the core subjects.

"We have this strategy where You could read in material and to get to details and some of her sentence," fourth-grade student Savanna Simpson said.

But when her students find themselves in a pickle, Bigart is never shy about instilling confidence into them.

"She'll go out of her way, even if it's hard for her to do it. She will explain it for us," fourth-grade student Hunter Decker said.

That extra commitment to helping her students is what gives this Teacher-of-the-Week the proudest moments.

"They come in and begin in the year as third graders and then at the end, they are ready for fifth graders," Bigart said. "That transformation to see is great."

Fox 40 would like to congratulate Mrs. Bigart on welcoming her child shortly after interviewing with us.
