A Town of Chenango man is facing a dozen charges after an investigation into photos and video of him wielding a handgun over the weekend.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, police responded to a suspicious activity complaint around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. The office says photos and video showed Michael S. Shaheen wielding a handgun and making statements that caused the recipient of them to seek an Extreme Risk Protection Order. The order was granted by Town of Chenango Court.

At the same time the order was being served to Shaheen, he was found to be in possession of guns, ammunition, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. These were stored in a location that was accessible to the two children who were confirmed to be living at the Sand Lane residence.

Shaheen was charged with the following:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree (Defaced for Concealment)
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • 6 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree
  • 2 separate charges of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree
