Amata to Join Owls Track and FieldPosted: Updated:
Union-Endicott Senior Ese Amata signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Track and Field Team for Division I Rice University. Amata will be competing in the high jump for the Owls. He has been absolutely dominate on the local track and field scene since he's been in high school. Freshman year he was the Class A Champion and large school representative for Section 4 at the State Meet. In Both his sophomore and junior years he was undefeated in both indoor and outdoor track in Section 4 competition. Both years he was the STAC, Sectional, and Class Champ and competed in both states and nationals. His best finish at both came his junior year where he placed second at states and 12th at nationals. Amata also set a school record with a jump of 6 feet 7 inches his sophomore year that he matched again last year. There was a big turnout for the signing today and he says it was incredible to be able to share this moment he's worked for with everyone that helped him along the way.
"Really I'm very emotional and surprised that all these kids and teachers and coaches came out," says Amata. "Even family friends. I'm just very happy, they helped me a lot."
Amata still has his senior season left to see what else he can add to his list of accolades. He will be majoring in Biological Engineering at Rice.
