Rollover Crash Causes Severe Backup During Rush Hour

UPDATE: 8:14 P.M. 

New York State Police says the driver in the one-car roll over that caused stand still traffic for miles down I-81 South near Whitney Point is a 53-year old female from Farmington, NY. 

She was driving a BMW on the south bound lane when the crash occurred.

Witnesses told police that they saw her vehicle go in and out of its lane before going off the roadway and rolling twice. 

The driver was transported by helicopter to Upstate Medical. 

No information on her condition has been released. 


A serious crash causing major delays on I-81 south near Whitney Point Tuesday afternoon. 

According to initial reports, crews responded to a one car roll over with serious injuries around 3:15 p.m.

According to State Police, one person was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. No word on the condition of the driver's injuries.

Fox 40 was on the way to the scene and could see traffic at a stand still for miles on the south bound lane near Exit 8.

New York State Police is handling the crash, which is still causing delays on the interstate as of 6 p.m.
