How the County's Keeping Roadways Safe Ahead of Snow Predictions

TOWN OF CHENANGO, N.Y. -

The first snow of the season is on the way. 28 plow trucks are gearing up to help keep our roads safe in the winter weather.

Today marks the start of a long season of salting roads and removing snow.

The Broome County Highway Department says drivers should also take caution.

"A road that might be bare down at a lower elevation, when you get to a hilltop could have 2-3 inches of wet slush on it and could be very slippery, so be aware as you're going up in elevation, conditions could be getting worse," said Mark Quail, the assistant general floor-man in the Highway Department.

Quail says in between snow removals, the the Department focuses on road repairs.
