Around this time last year Alex Wetzel, a Binghamton High grad and SUNY Broome student, lost his life to suicide.

Today, his family and friends held a fundraiser for the Alexander J. Wetzel scholarship.

"Alex was very into that type of science and everything else and we're trying to honor him by carrying that interest on forward to someone else...Right now it's specific to Binghamton High School. We would like to grow the fund so that it can be bigger and include potentially more schools and/or more opportunities for children and young adults looking for pursuing a career in computer science, engineering and the award is awarded to kids who display the same character traits that Alex did," said Brian Wetzel and Christin Tinklepaugh, Alex's parents.

Crowds gathered at Mountain Top Grove for music, games, raffles, and food.

Guests were encouraged to wear Alex's favorite shoes, Converse All-Stars, and color, yellow.

Tickets to the event were $50.
