TOWN OF UNION, N.Y. -

The Town of Union community came out to the 9/11 memorial in Highland Park Wednesday evening for a candle light ceremony to remember the terror attacks on our nation 18 years ago.

First responders were joined by Town of Union Supervisor Rick Materese, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and State Senator Fred Akshar.

"When you look at the state of affairs in this nation currently, where we are in 2019, 9-11 for all of us should really - remind us that this issue of unity right that we saw in the days after 9-11 really as things that we should be doing now," said Akshar.

The memorial, known as The Remembrance Garden, was built in 2002.
