BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

United Way of Broome County hosted its Annual Meeting Thursday night celebrating what the organization has accomplished over the past year and honoring those who have helped make those accomplishments possible.

The organization presented awards to individual volunteers that have dedicated their time to improving the community. They also honored local businesses and organizations that have held fundraising campaigns for United Way.

"Through those donations, we're able to fund programs and projects throughout the community, so in the past year we have had the benefit of funding 54 programs and projects in Broome county through 34 nonprofit organizations," said Jacqueline Gerchman, Executive Director of United Way of Broome County.

According to Gerchman, the programs and projects focus on health, education, financial stability, and essentially the basic needs of every person in Broome County.
