Owego Apalachin Fifth Graders Learn News Skills

Posted: Updated:

Owego Apalachin fifth graders are learning the skills of the news business during their weeklong summer camp at Owego Elementary School.

"We've been practicing scripts and on our iPads, we write," says student Laura Loomis.

The students are learning the basics of news reporting by producing and writing scripts for broadcast news. Teachers Stephen Fararro and Michelle Gatto are teaching the kids to use iPads, iMovie, and other various tools to create graphics and collect interviews.

"Now we're getting together on finding out what parts of the interview to put into the news show and actually editing it," says student Levi Saunders.

On Friday, they go on a field trip to the Fox 40 News Station.
