Reports: Mets Fire Coaches Eiland, Hernandez

Posted: Updated:

The New York Mets have fired pitching coach Dave Eiland and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez, the New York Post first reported.

Eiland, 52, was in his second season as the Mets' pitching coach. Hernandez was in his first season with the team.

The Mets entered Thursday with a 4.67 ERA, the third-worst in the National League.

Eighty-two year old Phil Regan will be the Mets new pitching coach, sources have confirmed. Regan was in his fourth season as the assistant minor league pitching coordinator. Before that, he was the St. Lucie pitching coach for six years and most recently joined Syracuse as an interim pitching coach.

Ricky Bones will return as bullpen coach. Bones coached the Mets bullpen from 2012-18 and also spent a lot of time with the Binghamton Mets.

The Mets also promoted minor league pitching coordinator Jeremy Accardo to a new created position of "pitching strategist."
