Maine-Endwell Softball Remembers Harper Stantz with Sunflowers
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -
The Maine-Endwell softball team approached a dark day for Binghamton high schoolers with beautiful sunflowers, in honor of Harper Stantz.
Harper would have been seventeen years old on Friday, the same day Binghamton played Maine-Endwell in a Section IV softball game. The Spartans have been wearing the sunflower clips and presenting them to other teams throughout the season, and hoped they would help brighten a dark day for Harper's classmates. This act of kindness was more than just good sportsmanship, it was compassion overcoming friendly competition.
"We wanted to make sure we let them know we're thinking about them," said Maine-Endwell head coach Matt Raleigh.
Binghamton softball players also honored Harper by wearing yellow ribbons in their cleats.
