BREAKING: JC Police Investigating Human Remains Found In Woods At Corner of Columbia And Fairview

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -

Johnson City Police are investigating human remains of an adult male found in a wooded area near the corner of Columbia Ave and Fairview Street in the village. Just before 12:30 pm on Wednesday, police vehicles converged on the area.

Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge saying that the body was found by Public Works workers while working on potholes.

A Fox 40 reporter on scene says dozens of Police Academy cadets are in the woods conducting a ground search, walking shoulder-to-shoulder. A drone is also on scene. 

Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge says it has not been determined to be a crime scene, but they are treating the death as suspicious at this time.

The body was removed from the scene and brought to the morgue where Thursday they will have autopsy.

Police say at this time that they do not know the cause of death nor know the identity of the remains
