Four Hockey Players Honored with the Tommy Mitchell Scholarship
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -
The Broome Sports Foundation awarded four former Broome County high school hockey players with the Tommy Mitchell Scholarship, honoring them before the Binghamton Devils game on Saturday. Luke Barney of Vestal, Chris Brewster of Chenango Forks, and Tyler Leniek of Maine-Endwell are high school seniors and Nathan Zweig is a SUNY Potsdam student and 2013 graduate of Chenango Forks.
The scholarship, which was first awarded in 1988, honors outstanding hockey players with great integrity and character in memory of Tommy Mitchell, a hockey player who tragically passed away in a car crash on his way to a game. Recipients must be high school seniors or full time college students. All four of the recipients feel a sense of honor representing who Tommy Mitchell was during his life.
