Bearcats Wrestling Heads To 2019 NCAA ChampionshipPosted: Updated:
Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton University's wrestling team will continue their historic season into the 2019 NCAA wrestling Championships in Pittsburgh, PA. from March 21-23. Four Bearcats will represent Binghamton University, the most the program has had since 2013.
"We're excited to wrestle against the best guys in the country" said head coach Kyle Borshoff. "I believe in them, they have what it takes to make it on that podium it's just going to come down to one match at a time and just being really focused on Thursday, Friday and Saturday."
Redshirt-freshman Lou DePrez will lead the Bearcats with a No. 11 seed in his 184 pound weight class. Anthony Sparacio and Lou's brother Vincent DePrez are 27 seeds and Zack Trampe sits at 33.
"Having four guys compete for us gives us a sense of accomplishment" said Borshoff. "I'm obviously a young coach and I hope these guys have gained a lot of confidence from what we did this season and rallying of 10-straight wins."
Although they'll competing on a very big stage, Borshoff is making sure the team's approaching it like it's any other match and that they're taking it one match at a time. They're simply focusing on the same goal they've had all season which is to step on the podium as a winner.
"It's just another tournament for us and I don't want to make it a bigger deal than it is" said Borshoff. "Like always, you step out in the middle of the circle and you wrestle the guy in front of you. At the end of the day, it isn't any different. We go out and wrestle hard and do the same things we've been doing."
The tournament is set to officially kick off Thursday at noon on ESPNU and Zack Trampe will be one of the first matches of the day.
