TOWN OF UNION, N.Y. -

One man was arrested and the other was sent to the hospital Sunday night in the town of Union, according to state police.

State police said troopers were called to a home in the 700 block of Maple Street for a reported stabbing.

After fleeing the scene, troopers were able to locate and arrest the suspect, Bryan J. Bonventre, 27.

Investigations determined Bonventre and a 27-year old victim ensued in a verbal dispute that became physical, resulting in the suspect cutting the victim with a box cutter.

The victim was transported to Binghamton General Hospital by UVES. The Broome County Sheriff’s Department also assisted NYSP at the scene. A further investigation revealed that the altercation occurred in the presence of a child.

Bonventre is facing several charges including felonies of Assault in the second degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and the misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.

Bonventre was arraigned at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail.  The investigation continues.
