OTEGO, N.Y. -

A fire completely destroys a home in Otego early Monday morning.

State Police in Oneonta responded to a fire on County Road 5 in the town of Otego around 1:09 a.m.

According to troopers, the sole resident, a 76-year old man, escaped but did not have a way of calling for help. He was able to call for help when a passerby saw him outside his residence.

Troopers say the elderly resident was taken to A.O Fox Hospital by CMT EMS for exposure to the cold weather.

Otego Fire Department, Wells Bridge Fire Department and West Oneonta Fire Department all responded to the scene.

Members from the Otego Fire Department are working with county fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
