B Devils Begin Their Three Game WeekendPosted: Updated:
Binghamton, N.Y. - The Binghamton Devils begin their three games in a row weekend tonight at Syracuse Crunch. The first three and three of the season,a season that's only twenty four games in, but head Coach Mark Dennehy called it the heart of the season.
"It's a good challenge for us. Three good teams, two of them on the road and we're in the heart of our season now" said Dennehy.
This weekend brings the Syracuse Crunch, Utica Comets and the Springfield Thunderbirds, three teams who sit in the top four power play units in the AHL. Number one, being Binghamton's first opponent, the Syracuse Crunch who ranks first in the AHL on the power play and 10th on the penalty kill.
"They bring it. You gotta match their effort level. You need to give them a little bit of their own medicine and be in their face and be physical. You can't beat them unless you match their effort" said Dennehy.
The Binghamton Devils on the other hand, have not had as much success on the power play or penalty kill. Binghamton finds themselves 29th in the AHL on the power play and 30th on the penalty kill. Therefore, this weekend is going to be a big one for the Devils.
"We need discipline right? The best penalty kill is to not take penalties. So, we need to find a way to play hard and be physical and not take penalties" said Dennehy,
The Devils play the Crunch at Syracuse Friday at 7:00 p.m.
