Bethann Shapiro Ord Tops Debut Off With A WinPosted: Updated:
Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton University Women's basketball team topped their season off with a 69-62 win over Charleston University, on Tuesday night. The victory marked the debut of Bethann Shapiro Ord as the Bearcats new head coach.
"It was great, it was really special. These girls work so hard, it was a great team win" said Ord.
Senior Rebecca Carmody scored a game-high 16 points, while in Sophomore forward Olivia Ramil's first regular season game as a Bearcat, she finished with 10 points.
Division II, Charleston showed early that they could compete with the Bearcats right from the jump. However, with the Bearcats up 63-59 with 1:48 remaining, Carly Boland's three-point play gave them the breathing room they'd need down the stretch.
"We took a lot of positives away from the game. They did a great job of executing the game plan. As for the things we need to work on, we need to take more care of the ball. If the other team turns over the ball, we need to convert and finish" said Ord.
Shapiro Ord is the first Binghamton head coach to win their debut since Laurie Kelly on Nov. 14, 1998
