Toga Looks To Repeat For Section IV Class D TitlePosted: Updated:
Tioga, N.Y. - The Tioga Tigers will step foot on the field on Friday as the Section IV Class D defending champions. While the Greene Trojans will look to win their first ever Section IV title. The Tigers have won six of the last seven Class D title games.
The Trojans are coming off a big upset win over Sidney and the Tigers took the 40-14 victory over Greene a couple of weeks ago, so Tioga expects this team to come in with a lot of energy and with the will to compete.
"They're gonna bring everything they have. We know that. They're gonna be fired up and we have to be ready for that. They have athletes all over the place" said Tioga head coach Nick Aiello.
"They're gonna be really prepared for us. They're gonna be ready to go. They're gonna know what we're doing and vise versa so it's just gonna come down to who's working the hardest" said Senior safety/running back John Worthing.
However, Tioga's defense is second in Section IV after allowing only 109 points on the season and on paper they continuously improve week to week.
"Every season you look at and want to get better week to week. Defensively we have tough nosed kids, we're not very big back there but we have quickness to the ball and as a team we swarm the ball well" said Aiello.
"Right now they're gaining a lot of confidence and that's huge when you're heading into the playoff stretch."
"The improvement has been amazing. We've been a lot more disciplined in practice and the focus has been there" said Senior middle linebacker Austin Lamb.
Tioga and Greene play Friday November 2 at 5 p.m. at Union-Endicott high school.
