In honor of Fallen Firefighter Day and to kick off Fire Prevention Week, Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company hosted its first ever Fire Prevention Day Sunday.
Firefighters at the Fire Station on Park Avenue gave kids hands on lessons on fire safety and prevention.
"We have the safety trailer here from the county, the kids have been able to go through there, call 9-1-1, learn not to touch pots and pans on the stove just their typical fire safety like stop, drop and roll, smokes high get low, crawl, that kind of thing," said Jerry Emmons, Fire Chief.
Children also learned how to property use a fire extinguisher. They were also treated to firefighter hats and badges along with donuts.
Emmons said they hope to host this event every year.
