BOCES Students Get On-The-Job Experience At Newest Visions Federal Credit Union BranchPosted: Updated:
Visions Federal Credit Union opened up its 50th branch on Thursday and its staff are students. The new location is right inside the Broome-Tioga BOCES Glendale Road campus.
"It kind of gives the kids the opportunity to gain a skill and continue to work in a manner that will also pay them," says Jim Mullins, Broome-Tioga BOCES Assistant Superintendent.
This is the 5th branch the credit union has opened up inside schools and a spokesperson says the company plans to add more school partnerships in the future. At BOCES, four students will be splitting two shifts three days a week.
"It's going to help me for the future a lot and it's already helped me so much, like I've learned a lot just over the first week of doing it, there's so much to learn and a lot to do," says Alex Ford, a student in the BOCES Evertech program.
Ford says he wants to go into the banking field after school. This gives him that valuable experience and gets a foot in the door. The students working at these in-school Visions Federal Credit Unions also receive scholarships for continuing education.
