DEPOSIT, NY -

The American Red Cross is providing emergency aid to seven people, three adults and four children who live on Evans Road, close to the scene of the derailment. The children are 8, 11, 13 and 15 years old.

The organization says volunteers from the Mohawk Valley Chapter offered immediate assistance for food, shelter, clothing. Volunteers were also on-hand for emotional support and provided comfort kits containing personal care items and stuffed animals for the four children.

In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the chemical spill.
