Binghamton Kicks Off Pride Month With Flag RaisingPosted: Updated:
To symbolize the start of Pride Month, Mayor Rich David held a flag raising outside of city hall. The guests in attendance included the Binghamton Pride Coalition, County Executive Jason Garnar, Assembly Woman Donna Lupardo and guest speakers from the community.
"I am here because I believe in equality for everyone and as mayor I want to send a message that Binghamton is a city that advocates for acceptance and inclusion and is a community where everyone is welcome"
He emphasized the idea that Binghamton is moving away from any negative political agenda and focusing on the LGBTQ residents in Broome County.
"This is not a partisan issue, or at least it shouldn't be. It's an issue of basic human rights, equality and simply a matter of what is right and what is wrong" says Mayor David.
The flag will remain outside of city hall throughout the month of June.
Upcoming Events Throughout Pride Month:
- 14th Annual Pride Palooza - Saturday, June 9th
