Local Flower Shop Gears Up For Mother's Day

Mother’s day is this Sunday, but one local business spends the entire week prepping for the holiday. 

A survey done by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics expects Mother’s Day spending to reach $23.1 billion this year. That survey found that 69-percent of consumers are expected to buy flowers -- spending about $2.6 billion. 

The week leading up to Mother’s Day is one of the busiest times of the year for Gennarelli’s Flower Shop. 

“We’ve probably done about 200 today and I think we have about 250 for tomorrow. We have four to five trucks delivering and I have seven to eight designers designing,” said Victoria Paoletti, owner of Gennarelli’s Flower Shop.

According to Paoletti, roses seem to be a Mother’s Day favorite, along with the colors lavender and pink. Other popular flower arrangements on Mother's Day also include outdoor blooming plants and corsages. 

Paoletti says the busy factor in each holiday is different. 

“Christmas is a two week run, — you know building up to it, the Christmas parties and all that — Valentine's Day is that one day burst that about knocks you out, but Mother’s Day is really is pretty much the whole week,” said Paoletti. 

Gennarelli’s Flower Shop has been located in Downtown Binghamton for the last 29 years.
