Investigators Determine Dogs Started Conklin Home Fire

Posted: Updated:

One day after a total-loss mobile home fire in Conklin, that occurred around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning, Broome County Fire investigators have determined the cause of the blaze as accidental.

Investigator Brian Botsford told Fox 40 the flames originated from the stove area after the owner's two small dogs climbed onto the counter, where one of them turned on the burner.

According to the homeowner, she went to take her child down to the bus stop, came back about ten minutes later and opened the kitchen door to discover a fire coming from the stove.

No injuries were reported after the fire tore through the Conklin trailer at the Pride Manor Mobile Home Park, and both dogs survived.

Minor damage was reported for the adjacent trailer.

The three residents of the home are being assisted by the Red Cross.
