Garnar Discusses State of Broome County At Binghamton RotaryPosted: Updated:
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar brought his State of the County address to the Binghamton Rotary Club. Garnar has been giving the county update in different locations across the county the past several weeks.
"I really feel that it's important for elected officials to get out, get out into the community, on the ground and actually talk to people who live in this community, who work in this community every day and get their feedback and get their ideas," says Garnar.
The major points of discussion was workforce development and the county's financial situation.
"We've been cited as being significantly fiscally stressed by the comptroller the last three years," says Garnar, "We're only one of ten municipalities in New York State who have gotten that designation three years in a row."
Garnar also addressed the opioid crisis, which the Rotary also secured a grant to combat on Tuesday. Garnar mentioned the overdose-death-free February we saw in Broome County, but acknowledges the crisis is not over.
