Early Morning Fire Leaves Heavy Damage To Vacant Binghamton Building

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

Fire ripped through all three floors of a vacant building in Binghamton around 1:30 am on Thursday morning. The fire left behind heavy damage to the property at 38 Columbus Park E, which fire officials say has been empty for several years.

Binghamton Fire Investigator Thomas Harding says the flames broke out on the left side of the front porch and spread quickly up the entire front of the building. The speed at which the fire spread was partially due to shingles containing petroleum underneath the siding.

Harding says there "wasn't supposed to be" anyone inside the building, but that, along with the cause, is still under investigation.
