Crash Claims Life Of 11 Year Old Pedestrian

The New York State Police in Ithaca on Sunday afternoon investigated a fatal motor vehicle / pedestrian accident on Sheldon Road in the Town of Dryden.  The investigation into the accident determined a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck being operated by Andrew R. Porter, age 26, of Dryden, was traveling south on Sheldon Road when the vehicle struck two female pedestrians who were walking southbound on the unlit paved roadway.

An 11 year old female victim identified as Kaylee Wacht of Freeville,  was pronounced deceased at the scene by Tompkins County Medical Examiner Dr. Howard Silcoff.  Kristin Shevalier, age 14 of Freeville. was flown by Life Net to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse, NY for non-life threatening injuries to her arm and head.  She is in stable condition 

The investigation into the motor vehicle accident is continuing.  No charges are pending or anticipated against the driver at this time.  

The New York State Police was assisted at the scene by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Groton Police Department, Freeville and Etna Fire Departments, Dryden Ambulance and a Life Net Helicopter.
