71 Residents of the Southern Tier Become Naturalized Citizens

In downtown Binghamton Friday 71 individuals became American Citizens.

The Naturalization Ceremony took place  on the second floor of the Broome County Courthouse.  Hundreds of family members and friends watched and applauded as each individual stepped up to be recognized as an American Citizen.

One new citizen says that she's has lived here in the U.S. for a while now, but she's finally making it official and she's very proud to become a U.S. citizen.

"I think the U.S. is a country built with people from all over the world and it really stands testimony to how great the country is and its very willing and accepting of people from everywhere." said  Dr. Gayatri Jayaraman.

Jayaraman says the application  process took about 6 months and included filling out an application, studying for a test and going though an interview.
