Serious Injuries on Rt. 26, Town of Maine

An accident with serious injuries early Saturday evening----

It happened around 5:15PM on Route 26 in the Town of Maine  near Gary Dyer Excavating..

A dark colored Chevy Monte Carlo with two passengers, crashed into a telephone pole while heading towards Endicott.

The car hit the pole with such impact that both airbags deployed, and the car appears to have bent around the point of contact.

A Life-Flight was called in early on, but then cancelled when the helicopter was unable to land.

The driver, a male, and a passenger, female, were then both taken away by ambulance.

Area residents say they heard the crash, saw the pole fall with wires snapping, and immediately called 911.

According to witnesses, a motorcyclist stopped in efforts to help the passengers, as well as a Vestal EMT who was returning from a fishing trip.

The cause of the accident not yet determined.

The condition of the car's occupants is not yet released.

We'll update you with any information as it becomes available.
