Binghamton University Being Investigated for Handling of Sex Complaints

The U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights is investigating 55 schools across the country, including Binghamton University for possible violations of federal law over the handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints.

The agency will not disclose details about schools under investigation. The assistant secretary for civil rights says a school's inclusion on this list, "in no way indicates at this stage that the college or university is violating or has violated the law."

In a statement late Thursday afternoon, Binghamton University has responded, "We are working with the OCR and have fully complied with the investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of this case we can not disclose any specific facts about the case under investigation. We are unable to provide any further details at this time."
