Memorial Park in Owego to Honor Owego Mayor Ed Arrington
4/28/2014 (Updated 11:17:53 PM)There's another story in Owego--that's drawing people together:
And Owego resident, Laura Rodd is organizing volunteers to build a memorial park in remembrance of Owego Mayor Edward Arrington, who died last year at 70 years of age.
It would occupy a grassy corner of Fulton and East Main streets.
Arrington was the village's first black mayor.
He ushered the Riverwalk Project to completion and helped secure six million dollars in state grants for the downtown.
"There's beauty and learning possibilities and a place just to relax and enjoy the beauty of Owego," said Laura Rodd.
"And he loved the village and if there was something he could do he would be willing to do it, or find a way to do it, or find somebody who could help them,"
He served in 2004 and was at the helm curing the devastating flood of 2011.
