Harbaugh earns AEast Player of the Week Honors

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore outfielder Sydney Harbaugh has been named the America East Softball Player of the Week. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned the conference’s weekly accolade.

Harbaugh hit .640 (16-for-25) in leading Binghamton to a 6-2 week that included series wins over UMass Lowell and Hartford. In the recent weekend series against Hartford, Harbaugh went 5-for-7, reached base nine times and scored seven runs.

Six of Harbaugh’s hits during the week were for extra bases (four doubles, a triple and a home run). Harbaugh finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage. She is now hitting a team-best .350 and has a career-high, 10-game hitting streak.

“Sydney has been playing really well,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She has been doing a great job getting things started for us at the lead off spot and really creates momentum for the rest of our lineup.”

As a freshman in 2013, Harbaugh batted .319 and was named first-team all-conference. She was also named to the America East All-Rookie Team and was the conference’s Rookie of the Week on Feb. 18, 2013.

Binghamton (18-18, 8-3 AE) hosts Colgate on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
