Back to the Scene of the Fatal Shooting of Police Officer in Johnson City

Monday night, police were still trying to piece together what led up the the  bizarre  incident and tragic shooting in johnson city Monday morning that left a police officer and a suspect dead.

Fox 40 reporters were on the scene all day and in the  evening,  Ayla Ferrone returned to the place where it all happened:

"At this point we have no idea why Clark did what he did," said Johnson City Police Chief Joe Zikuski.
 
According to officials, Clark seemed normal when he left his home this morning for work. He was a M-R-I technician at Southern Tier Imaging Center.
 
"Something terribly went wrong from the time he left his residence to when he showed up here in Johnson City," said Zikuski.
 
Officials are telling us that when Clark arrived at work it appeared his mental condition was unstable, and even yelled and shook another employee.
   
"As other employees were entering the building, he was trying to keep them out saying, there's a bomb," said Zikuski.
 
Zikuski says Clark then ran out of Southern Tier Imaging Center, and that's just about the same time Smith arrived on the scene. Clark ran toward Smith's patrol car waving his arms and yelling something that witnesses couldn't understand. The suspect came up behind Smith, and punched him multiple times...
   
"It appears the suspect leaned in and somehow managed to get Officer Smith's duty weapon out of his holster," said Zikuski.
 
A struggle followed and Officer Smith managed to get out of his car before the suspect began shooting.
   
"Once officer Smith was down, the suspect shot him two more times..7:06 we were getting regular transmissions of shots beig fired," said Zikuski.
   
A second officer arrived on the scene shortly after. The suspect then turned and fired on him. That officer returned immediately fire, putting Clark down.
Both Clark and Officer Smith were taken across the street to Wilson Memorial Hospital. Doctors fought for over an hour to save Smith's life, but were unsuccessful.
 
""Officer Smith never stood a chance...He's going to be missed, as I said, deeply by his comrades and family," said Z.
 
Clark was also pronounced dead at 10:22 in the operating room as Wilson Memorial.
   
"It's more than likely we're never going to know what happened and why," said Zikuski
   
Counseling is already being provided to the Johnson City Police Department as well as Smith's family. Zikuski says not much more can be done at this point.
   
"Where do we go from here.....we bury a cop," said Zikuski
