Senator Gillibrand Pushes U.S. Geological Survey to Maintain Owego Stream Gauge Funding

After winter comes spring, and with spring comes flooding-- sometimes, serious flooding--that's why Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing the U.S. Geological Survey to restore funding to keep the Owego stream gauge operational.
Gillibrand says the modest cost--just 9,800 dollars is much more cost effective than removing it, and would help reduce costly clean-up efforts after storms--because it would provide warnings of floods ahead of time.
The gauge is located one mile north of the village. Gillibrand notes that the floods of 2011 left 90 percent of Owego under water.
