Fiala on Governor's Budget
3/11/2014 (Updated 10:54:58 PM)Former Broome County Executive and current D.M.V Commissioner Barbara Fiala says it is crunch time in Albany.
She was in Endwell Tuesday to give an update on the governor's budget.
She says the biggest concern she hears from residents is property taxes.
Governor Cuomo is proposing a property tax freeze tied to reductions that would shrink local governments.
And she defended Cuomo's highly controversial plan to provide tax-payer-funded college educations to prisoners in an effort to lower recidivism rates.
"Providing free education for prisoners certainly is controversial but the governor feels strongly in the end it will save the taxpayers. And I think we're going to see something that will be tweaked," said Fiala.
April first is the deadline for an on-time state budget.
