Laney, Cadogan earn conference honors

VESTAL, N.Y.  Sophomore first baseman Lisa Cadogan has been named the America East Player of the Week while senior Demi Laney has been named the conferences Pitcher of the Week. This marks the second time that each Bearcat player has earned the America Easts weekly accolade.

Cadogan hit a team-best .500 (6-for-12) during Binghamtons run at the South Florida Tournament this past weekend. She drove in four runs and recorded a pair of multiple-hit games. Cadogan finished the week with a four-game hitting streak, a slugging percentage of .583 and as well as a .625 on-base percentage.

Lisa picked up right where she left off last year and had several quality at-bats, head coach Michelle Burrell said. She came through for us in some key situations.

Laney, meanwhile, went 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA. On Friday, she tossed a complete-game shutout in Binghamtons 1-0 win over a South Florida team that was receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25 poll. Laney also pitched five scoreless innings against Wright State the following day. In addition, she also appeared in the Bearcats games against top-ranked Tennessee, then unbeaten Illinois and ACC opponent Pittsburgh.

Demi did an awesome job to get us started with a win over USF, Burrell said. We played some great defense behind her and it was a great way to start off the season.

Cadogan, who was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2013, was previously named the conferences Player of the Week on March 19, 2013. Laney was previously named the America East Pitcher of the Week on April 15, 2013.

Binghamton (2-3) travels to the UNLV Tournament Feb. 28-March 2.
