First Friday in the Cold

Although lows today were below zero and highs were in the single digits, that didn't stop locals from heading out for some fun.

Today was 2014's premier First Friday art walk. Events included everything from a modern art exhibition from Newburgh, New York, to nature photography focused on birds and butterflies. Organizers and artists say people will come out to see art regardless of the weather.

"A lot of people came. My friends came, my family came, which is a pretty good sized family. It was a nice turn out for such a cold night," said Michael Shaw, a photographer.

"I don't think the cold is going to affect it. Like I said, you can put a hat on, you can put a scarf on. People have been cooped up for the past 24 hours because of the storm, so they're anxious to get out," said Katy Perry, creative director at JungleScience.

first fridays are presented by the gorgeous washington street association and are held from six to nine on the first friday of every month.
