Working Through the Wind Chill

The snow has stopped but now its the temperatures that are falling.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for most of the Southern Tier. They say at times it may feel like 25 to 35 degrees below zero.

"I'm trying to get this cleared out and the driveway so if I have to get out I can," said Steve Ward of Binghamton.

Steve Ward started shoveling his driveway around 9 Friday morning.  When we caught up with him at 12, there was still some work to be done.

"You can only stay out 10-15 minutes at a time," said Ward.

"I kept moving.  I'm originally from Buffalo so I'm kind of used to this," said Eric Ranson, Binghamton resident.

The cold was no match for Eric Ranson.  He says after shoveling his driveway for 40 minutes, he was looking to make a couple of dollars Friday shoveling his neighbors.

"From there I was already cold, I just figured i would go door to door," said Ranson.

Spending the day in the cold does come with a few risks.
Health Practioners say frostbite can occur as early as 10 -15 minutes of exposure. They say dress in layers and stay hydrated.

The wind chill warning is in effect until 9am Saturday morning so if you can stay inside and stay warm.
