Head On Crash Leaves Two Dead in Tompkins County
1/1/2014 (Updated 6:41:20 PM)Two people are dead after a two-car head-on collision in the Town of Newfield in Tompkins County.
State Police say 19-year-old James Crosby of Van Etten was driving northbound on State Route 34/96 when he lost control and entered the southbound lane, striking a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Jeep was driven by 31-year-old Samantha Aarnio of Spencer.
Police say Crosby was taken to Robert Packer Hospital with a leg injury. But, his passenger, 20-year-old Derek Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aarnio and one of her passengers, 32-year-old Eugene Aarnio were hospitalized with injuries. Another passenger, 67-year-old Kathy Lattimore was pronounced dead at the Cortland Regional Medical Center
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call New York State Police in Ithaca at (607) 347-4440.
