Bearcats fall to Colgate

VESTAL, N.Y. - Sharp-shooting Colgate (4-2) shot 67 percent and drilled 15 three-pointers in a 93-64 win over Binghamton mens basketball (1-6) Sunday afternoon at the Events Center. The Raiders made 15 of their first 18 shots and never looked back, pinning a fourth straight loss on a young Bearcats team that started four freshmen and a sophomore.

It goes without saying it was a tough day for us, head coach Tommy Dempsey said. Colgate is in a really good offensive rhythm right now and they came in here and put it on us. Credit them ... it shows where they are now and how well that team is playing. They took advantage of us today.

Five days after shooting 65 percent in a road win at Tulane, the Raiders ran their offense to near-perfection again on Sunday. Eleven players hit the scoring column, led by sophomore guard Austin Tillotson, who made 9-of-9 shots (4-of-4 three-pointers) en route to a game-high 25 points.

Freshman guard Marlon Beck II led BU with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Binghamton trailed 16-13 with 13:38 left in the first half before Colgate embarked on a 20-4 run that featured seven straight field goal makes. The big run, which spanned 5:15, stretched the Raiders lead to 41-27, and included 10 consecutive made shots. The Bearcats used a modest 9-5 run to end the half and bring their deficit to 12, 48-36. But Colgate opened the second half with a 10-1 run - including seven points in a 58-second span - and the rout was on.

We had a good stretch late in the first half but halftime kind of hurt us, Dempsey said. We found our rhythm and defensive chemistry but then after half, Colgate got off to a good start and were chasing them after that.

Senior center Roland Brown made 3-of-4 from the floor for 10 points. Freshmen Magnus Richards, Nick Madray and Yosef Yacob added eight points apiece.

Binghamton begins four straight on the road with a game at Mt. St. Marys Wednesday in Emmitsburg, Md. Looming is a Saturday night encounter with seventh-ranked Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.
