Binghamton and Vestal High Schoolers Go Head to Head for CHOW

When you think of schools competing with each other, you might picture a football game.

But, in the spirit of the holiday season, Vestal High School and Binghamton High School students challenged each other to collect non-perishable food items for the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).

Over the past few weeks, students made signs and encouraged their classmates to bring in items for the friendly competition.

"Coming up on the holiday and a very long school break where students struggle with food insecurity they will be home without breakfast and lunch that schools provide. So, this is going to directly help them," said Mike Leahy, CHOW Director.

"It's great that we can know in our hearts it's going to stay in the area.  It's going to improve the lives of people in Binghamton." said Vestal Senior Nathan Grossman.

Vestal was the winner of the first ever competition, collecting 1,900 non-perishable food items.  3,500 items were collected as a whole between the two schools.
