National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday

If you're cleaning out your medicine cabinet, the Broome County Sheriff's Department wants to help.

Officials say disposing of outdated, unwanted or unused prescription medication  properly can be important for both safety and  environmental reasons.

This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through out Broome County there will be drop off points for these medications at the Town of Union Town Hall, 107 Main Street in Windsor, and the Scoops Ice Cream parking lot in Whitney Point.

"It's important for the environment and to be sure that your expired medicines and unused medicines don't get into the wrong hands of anybody particularly young children, and if you're grandparents this is a good way to get rid of them," says Broome County Sheriff David Harder.

Sheriff David Harder reminds those bringing in pills to put them in a small plastic baggy or leave them in their original containers when dropping off pills.

Tioga County residents can drop their unwanted pills off at 6 McMaster Street in Owego tomorrow as well.
