SUNY Broome Opens Natural Science Center

After more than five years in the works, President Kevin Drumm cut the ribbon to mark the opening of SUNY Broome's new Natural Science Center.

The center replaces previous science buildings that were more than sixty years old. The school wanted the facility to be state of the art and it spent a million dollars on new lab equipment and tools.

"The facility is now on the cutting edge along with the construction. It was challenging to overcome the old lab space in the past."

"More than 4,000 students will use the Natural Science Center throughout the school year... That's more than half of the nearly 7,000 students enrolled at SUNY Broome."

"We actually service every single division across the campus... whether it be liberal arts, health sciences or stem."

The building is has eight chemistry labs, 5 biology labs, two physical science labs. 1 computer lab, and two integrated classrooms. It's three stories and about 54,000 square feet.
Located right in the edge of campus it has many impressed with the project's end results.

"I think everyone was excited to see it and not even us science students just everyone on campus. Just seeing that it did get bigger and hopefully it continues to grow."

The college in-fact is continuing to grow.  It will become a residential campus next year and recently unveiled its new logo after it's name change to SUNY Broome Community College last spring.
